The Minamilist: Toyota Hiace Conversion

The new Toyota Hiace model is a fantastic choice for those looking for a camper van that doubles as an everyday vehicle. Our client wanted a simple, minimalist setup that offered a balance between everyday driving, and the ability to get away and be off grid for short periods of time.

Design Concept

With the wider body of the new Hiace model, we were able to incorporate an east-to-west bed layout, maximising available space in the front half of the van. This design perfectly suited our client’s vision for a more open van layout.

Key Features Include:

  • East-to-West Bed: This layout maximizes floor space, creating a more open and practical living area.
  • 2x Heavy-Duty Under Bed Drawers: These drawers provide ample storage space while keeping everything neatly tucked away.
  • Wheel Arch Storage: Custom-built to house multiple water jerry cans and our client’s fishing rods, adding practicality for outdoor adventures.
  • Kitchen Unit: Featuring a 65L Bushman fridge and a large storage compartment, offering both function and style.
  • Custom Slide-Out Kitchen: This kitchen unit doubles as a bench seat, providing multi-use functionality for both cooking and lounging.
  • 12V Off-Grid System: Powered by a 100Ah lithium battery, with shore power charging and a 1500W inverter, ensuring off-grid capabilities for extended stays.
  • Rhino Racks & Awning: These added exterior features increase storage versatility and provide shelter for outdoor living.

This conversion perfectly embodies the principles of minimalist living—focusing on practicality and efficiency while enabling our client to enjoy their time on the road. Whether heading out for a fishing trip or a weekend getaway, this HiAce offers everything needed for a seamless van life experience.
